I unreservedly encourage any Christian who desires to experience more joy and to develop a closer understanding and relationship with the Holy Spirit to read Dr. Devine’s book, The Awesome Power of Joy! Dr. Devine clearly states his book’s purpose, and engages his readers in a personal, highly organized, and systematic study of scriptural principles related to experiencing the joy related to living a Spirit-filled life. Reflecting on a lifetime of interesting and transparent personal experiences, the author invites the reader to systematically study the Bible in eight specific topical chapters. Each chapter contains two to six short, digestible lessons that can be used for daily personal studies or easily read in larger sections. Each lesson is supported by numerous Bible verses, and the entire book is filled with scriptural references. The writing style is straightforward and understandable. Interesting and useful diagrams and visual aids reinforce the text and help promote the reader’s retention of concepts discussed. A rich appendix provides readers who may not already have a close relationship with God an opportunity to explore a step-by-step process to increase their faith and to live an abundant and joyful life. I highly recommend this book and give it a five- star rating!
